Ken Watt - Sergeant at Arms

Ken joined the Chicago Police Department and the Fraternal Order of Police in 1 966. Ken career spans five decades filled with various assignments. He has worked in patrol, tact, and the detective division as a patrol officer, field training officer, and detective.

When Chicago's mayor Jane Byrne promised collective bargaining to police officers Ken helped organize for the F.O.P. and became the unit representative of the 7t" District in Chicago Not satisfied with collective bargaining only for Chicago Ken and the F.O.P. went to Springfield and worked for the passage of collective bargaining and the Police officers Bill of Rights for all officers in Illinois.

With the F.O.P. Ken has served Chicago Lodge 7 as a watch representative, Unit representative, chairman of various committees and Sgt. At Arms where he is in his third three year term. Most recently Ken served on the conference committee of the highly successful 2006 Illinois Biannual conference and golf outing held in Chicago.

On the State level Ken is in his second term as First Vice President. He has served as Vice chairman of the legislative committee which was able to gain passage of the long sought after S.L.E.P. pension legislation that gives our county sheriffs improved pension benefits. The committee also helped Chicago pass its pension legislation improvements and implement funding legislation for the purchase of new vehicles for State Troopers. Governor Blagojevich signed the funding bill at the State conference in front of the assembled delegates.

When President Bush signed 218 into law the legislative committee went to work and was able to assist in the passage of legislation that implemented a working model of the law in Illinois. .Illinois is one of the first states to have 218 up and running thru its Illinois Retired Officers Carry Concealed legislation.

Ken is very interested in the expansion of the F.O.P. both in labor and on the Fraternal side. He is most proud to have sworn in the newest lodge, The United States Air Marshals Butch O'Hare Federal Lodge 11F.

Ken retired in 2006 after almost 40yrs of service to the Chicago Police Department. Ken has not retired from his commitment to Law Enforcement. .He continues as First Vice President of Illinois F 0 P and his work on the Lodge 7 and State legislative committees gives an experienced voice to those committees.
