Citywide Team Accomplishments

This is list of  of the Citywide Team accomplishments from the time they were elected to their positions on the FOP Board of Directors. Few of these accomplishments are directly related to the contract that was negotiated / arbitrated.

Pledges to run the Lodge like a business and established written policies and procedures

June `02

Established Retiree and Disability Committees made up of Retired and Disabled Officers

Expanded office hours to better serve the membership

July `02

Got legislation passed that increased Line of Duty death Widows benefits and Mandatory Retiree Benefits

Established a Disability Committee made up of Disabled Officers who are available 5 days a week to assist Disabled Officers.

Lodge interceded on behalf of 2 officers accused of molestation with a baton and won.

Lodge battled former Supt. Hillard over his attempt to terminate 2 P/Os in a media frenzy over the death of a victim of Domestic Violence [Cornelius and Green].

Began process of expanding use of in-house attorneys saving the Lodge about $500,000 annually.

Lodge offers free Flu Shots to all members for the first time.

Governor honors FOP request to veto Perjury Bill

FOP wins Cornelius and Green case against the Supt. and Department

Governor signs Pension Bills allowing maximum pension after 29 years 1 day [down from 32 years 1 day], Minimum Widows and Retirees get $200 extra per month over 2 years, Mandatory Retirees get pension after 10 years [cleanup Language]

FOP files 2 lawsuits against Citizens for making false complaints

Lodge files Grievance over improper transfer of 5 P.O.s from O'Hare and wins precedent setting award of time and '/2 for entire time of improper transfer and mileage

Lodge discovers errors in charges for retiree Health Costs and demands response from City

Lodge lessens wait time at Medical Section

H.R. 218 signed into law by President Bush who personally thanked us for our efforts.

Sworn Affidavit Bill #2 signed into law and City wants to negotiate over it.

City enforces need for signed affidavit when citizens complain on the Police

Lodge 7 is first to acquire new contract over all 42 City Unions.

Lodge goes to court to force City to pay back overcharges on Retiree Health Care.

Life insurance for members on Disability is increases to $25,000.

Lodge and Labor Board force City to rescind City Ordinance passed in '03 over Traffic Control at Soldier Field

Lodge pays off Mortgage on Building

FOP passes Carry/Concealed Bill in Illinois and fights Mayor to implement it for CPD Retirees. August `05

Lodge wins arbitration requiring the City to pay P.O. D2A pay after being improperly fired and causing him to miss Det's exam. Pay continues until testing and promotion process is afforded. October `05

Lodge wins arbitration over City for changing start times for Rapid Response cars.

Lodge issues Legal Defense Handbooks

Lodge is successful in resolving the Carry Concealed issue for Retirees over Mayor's objections. Lodge gets legislation passed adjusting the dates for retirees to receive the 3% C.O.L.A. allowance. February `06

Lodge enters battle over naming a street after Black Panther and wins.

May `06

Lodge wins arbitration over CHA grievance which nets members 1.3 million.

June `06

Lodge establishes web access to get input from members on contract proposals.

FOP Lodge 7 is first Lodge in country to get financial training introduced into the Academy.

Lodge secures survivor benefits for the family of P.O. Darryl Hernandez after City declined to.

September `06

FOP helps pass "Helps" legislation allowing Retirees to write off $3000 in health care costs. November `06

FOP stops "anti-Police" legislation in Springfield [SB2737].

January `07

As a condition of Bond in a misdemeanor offence, a member was prohibited from possessing his firearm. The Lodge got the restriction lifted but the City refused to accept the order. An arbitrator forced the City to reimburse the member for all time he was not allowed to work.

March `07

Lodge expands it's role in ensuring "Cop Killers" stay behind bars.

Lodge rolled out "first time" Vision and Dental Packages for our Retirees

Lodge worked with National to rectify misinterpretations in the "Helps Legislation" July `07

Re-established FOP Annual Picnic in new location

Lodge gets City to open up Movie Detail Special Employment to all members

The Lodge joins City in opposing the release of names of P.O.s with C.R.#s.

August `07

Governor signs Lodge's Bills to: allow widows not married for a year to appeal to the Pension Board for benefits; allow handicapped beneficiaries to retain benefits; give back benefits to widows who have re-married.

September `07

Judge rules in Lodge's favor over FLSA overtime case. Negotiations are on.

City sends out checks to Retirees who overpaid for their health Insurance bringing total to date for reimbursements to 25.9 million dollars.

November `07

Lodge commits to help build Autism Center with Easter Seals in Medical District. December `07

Lodge helps stop prosecution of P.O. for DUI using the "Administrative Blow" ordered by a supervisor.
